DESIGN COMMENTS: The Canadian Sailcraft 40' (CS 40) was designed by the successful British racing yacht designer Tony Castro, her lines and sail plan are essentially those of a modified Castro One Ton race boat. It is an ocean racer, that is fast, stiff, and responsive. In appreciation of the design, quality and finish of the CS 40 was voted Sailing World Magazines "top of her class" in their annual Boat of the Year Awards, beating the Farr 38 and the Swan 61 into joint second place. CONSTRUCTION, HULL & DECK: Solid glass below the waterline and core cell construction above. Mars shoal drafted lead poured bulb keel. FRP skinned partial skeg-hung rudder with S/S rudder stock. Aluminum toe rail fitted 360°. White decks with contrasting white diamond non-skid patterned areas. White hull, double blue covestripe, double blue bootstripe, black bottom (Interlux Interprotect 4000 currently on). Double S/S lifelines. Double solid S/S bow & transom rails. (6) Large aluminum chocks and cleats. Teak planked cockpit seats. Stern platform w/ (5) step S/S heavy-duty swim ladder. Thurston dodger in Navy with zipping forward window & handrail (waterproofed/ glass replaced-2016). Lifesling in hard case. 12V Lewmar windlass with two footswitches on deck. 35lb Delta anchor with 25' 5/16" chain + 150' 5/8" nylon rode. 40" Whitlock steering wheel on powder-coated pedestal. ACCOMMODATIONS: Light, airy and spacious, is the essence of the CS 40' interior, beautifully designed and finished throughout in varnished cherry with attractive blue berth cushions. Elegantly appointed double cabins fore and aft provide luxurious sleeping accommodations for owners and their guests. The forward cabin features an ensuite head access. In the main salon, space is utilized to the maximum, with settees to port & starboard providing additional berths if needed. The large drop leafed table provides dining for up to 6. The forward-facing navigation station area has ample space for chartwork and storage for miscellaneous items. The galley is fully fitted, out of way from the main salon. 6" 3' Vee berth. SAIL INVENTORY: Ullman Mainsail with (2) reef points (single line reefing lead to cockpit), in good condition. Ullman 135% Genoa with foam luft (UV cover replaced 2013), in good condition. In 2000, the company reopened for custom production, and DUCHESS was built and commissioned in 2001. She represents the opportunity to purchase a handsome Sloop, capable of offshore cruising or club racing. She features a transom for easy boarding, very comfortable cockpit for six, 12V windlass, a lovely interior with cherry joinery, two staterooms and spacious salon and galley. Her Westerbeke 40 hp diesel has approximately 850 hours. She is easily handled by one or two people. Recent improvements include Tides Marine mainsail track, 2 new aluminum 10 lb LPG tanks, new running rigging, new VHF and Ram mic, some new hoses, and new mainsheet traveler.
